Home Sleep Testing

A Convenient, Comfortable and Cost Effective alternative.

What is Home Sleep Testing?

Patient OverviewHome Sleep Testing or HST is a way for you to be evaluated for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) from the comfort of your own bed. There are just a couple of simple sensors which tell if there are pauses in breathing during sleep. The cost is significantly less, typically just a small fraction of what a more traditional procedure would cost at a sleep laboratory.

For a select group of individuals, a home sleep study may make more sense. Home sleep tests are only used to diagnose obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Individuals meeting the clinical criteria listed below can now choose between having their test done in the laboratory and having it done at home.

Home Sleep Testing Benefits

  • Comfort

There's nothing like the comfort of your own bed!

  • Convenience

No need to drive across town, miss work or coordinate an overnight study in a sleep lab with your busy schedule.

  • Cost

Many patients are searching for a more cost-effective solution. HST is between 1/3rd and 1/10th the cost of an in-lab study.

How Does the Home Sleep Testing Process Work?

  1. Patient OverviewScreen Yourself

If your self-screening is positive, or if you feel you have symptoms of Sleep Apnea, you will need to schedule an appointment and discuss your symptoms with your physician. A Home Sleep Test requires a prescription order to be sent via fax to Sound Sleep Health from your physician.

    Take the GASP Questionnaire!

  2. See your Physician

When speaking with your physician, discuss your symptoms and bring your screening results from our website.  Your physician will evaluate the symptoms and discuss the appropriateness of a Home Sleep Test for your situation.

  3. Your physician will prescribe a Home Sleep Test from Sound Sleep Health

Your physician should first evaluate you for signs and symptoms of sleep apnea. He or she may have you fill out a questionnaire, or may ask a few simple questions.

  4. Schedule delivery

Once Sound Sleep Health receives the order, it will be processed into our scheduling and insurance verification system. Someone from our professional customer service or technical staff will contact you via phone, verify all insurance information, address, etc. and schedule a testing kit to be delivered as soon as possible.

  5. Meet with Sound Sleep Health staff for complete testing instructions

If you are not able to meet with a Sound Sleep Health staff member, we will ship the testing kit directly to your home and provide technical support for additional assistance.

  6. Take the test – in the comfort of your own bed!

You will go to bed at your normal bedtime, and try to stay in bed at least 6 hours. If you don't get at least two hours of sleep or experience other difficulties, call Sound Sleep Health to make arrangements to test again the next night

  7. Return the testing device back to Sound Sleep Health the next day
  8. Get your results in a few days

Sound Sleep Health usually processes the data and a sleep specialist interprets the report in a couple of days. Once that happens, we immediately send the report to your physician.; You can meet with your physician to discuss test results and (if necessary) your treatment options.
