IMPORTANT UPCOMING CHANGE TO MEDICARE
Starting October 1, Medicare has advised that it will no longer cover most telehealth visits. THIS CHANGE ONLY APPLIES TO REGULAR MEDICARE PATIENTS. Medicare Advantage and commercial insurance plans will not be affected.
Medicare is cutting coverage JUST FOR TELEHEALTH VISITS, not for any other components of care, such as sleep testing, testing supplies, medications and other therapies for sleep disorders.
As we are a telehealth clinic, starting in October our regular Medicare patients will be billed a cash price of $75 for visits with nurse practitioners, and $100 for visits with physicians. We regret the extra cost, but it’s needed to offset at least a part of our operating expenses.
There is active legislation in Congress to extend telehealth coverage for Medicare, and there is still hope that it will pass before the end of this month. We are monitoring and will keep this post up to date.
Telehealth is effective, convenient and environmentally friendly. We strongly encourage all of our patients to contact their US Congressperson and Senator to express support for telehealth.
